The MGA (1956-1962) is an excellent example
of the British soul we'd like to find in a vintage roadster. A new engine and
superior aerodynamics made the MGA a much better performer than previous models.
A fine example of motorsports improving the breed, the MGA was developed in time for
the 1955 Le Mans where three prototypes were entered. Success came with second and
third in class at the 1956 Mille Miglia and fourth, fifth and sixth place at Sebring
the same year. A MGA MkII brought more trophies in 1962 with a first in class on both
the Monte Carlo and Tulip rallies.
Introduced in 1961 the MGA MkII is the last model produced. With a gutsy engine and
taller gearing for refined long-distance cruising, disc brakes and a light and
responsive chassis (aluminum doors, hood and trunk lid) the MkII is identifiable by the
recessed grille and horizontal rear light clusters.
Sporty without being rough, elegant without ostentations, it speaks about a time
when the trip was just as important as getting there. What better way to discover
a lost castle or a beckoning vineyard!
